WHAT PART DOES FAITH PLAY IN LIVING A HOLY LIFE?

Hello there. How have you been in this first month of 2019? I hope you are doing well. Let me say, Happy New Year! 🙂 This is my first blog of the year and I am excited. It has been a minute since I had a blog up but I plan to write more on diverse topics this year.

I do hope that you’ve set clear goals for this year and clear timelines to achieve these goals. Creativity involves two processes: Thinking then Producing. You have to visualize first what you desire to attain then work towards it. I do wish you all the best in that. On my part, I plan to engage more in films, photography and design this year. Do follow my work and inspiration on social media.

Now on to the core of this blog…a few months back as I was meditating during one of my devotions, a question popped up in my stream of thoughts: “What part does faith play in living a holy life?” This was after my evaluation of a profound change in how the Lord had helped me overcome a few addictions that had troubled me for such a long time. Sometimes when one is faced with failure after failure, there is a temptation to take the easy way out. I am here to encourage you to keep walking straight on. Don’t give in. Don’t give up.

I do enjoy action and hero based movies. The scenes are pretty much along the same story lines. Victory is assured when you set your strongest champion at the forefront of the fight. Now victory over sin is complete when you allow Jesus Christ our ultimate savior to take the lead. 1 Corinthians 15:57 exclaims “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Only in Christ do we enjoy victory and strength to accomplish all expectations set for us. Christ has already won so we don’t need to fight and win a new battle. We only need to connect to the victory grace flowing from Him and apply it in our own lives.

What you encounter is determined by what you carry. When you carry Christ in your being, then all you will encounter is victory and whatever challenge you face will only be setting the stage to much greater victory. I believe the answer to my question on the role of faith is contained in one word – SURRENDER. You live a victorious life when you live a life surrendered to Christ and His ways. Faith keeps you focused and surrendered on the grace of God to carry you through rather than being dependent on your own strength.

The definition of faith as given in Hebrews is: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1 NIV). The Bible is not short on detailed encounters on how different people have experienced God, heard from him or even seen Him/a part of Him (in the case of Moses seeing God’s back). It all started with them possessing faith; Unshakable confidence in the realness of an omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent God. However, the greatest of these men and women had more than faith, they had developed trust. The difference between faith and trust is a ‘relationship’. Trust is to have confidence in somebody. Trust is thus formed based on a working relationship with a particular person. Oswald Chambers said “The root of faith is the knowledge of a Person.” Trust takes it a step further from just having the knowledge of a person to actually meeting them, talking to them and sharing life experiences with them.

Salvation was not meant to be ‘boring’ or restricting in the enjoyment of God given life. Salvation is a source of freedom and the life after is meant to usher and lead you to the source of that salvation – God. It is in the presence of God that one finds ultimate joy. “When you are rightly related to God, it is a life of freedom and liberty and delight, you are God’s will and all your commonsense decisions are His will for you unless He checks.” – Oswald Chambers.

My parting shot will be to urge to value your gift of salvation and honor it. Don’t follow God by feelings. God can only lift you when you express faith in him. He requires to see your dependence on him just like a toddler is depend on the father to lift him/her even when they fall. Honor your prayer time and use it to develop a greater relationship with God. May you walk a victorious life! Until the next piece, feel free to leave a comment below or share this blog with someone. Shalom.

DARK CROSSROADS

Today I have dreamt dreams
Of colorful orange skies and shiny cars
My hopes are lifted even if it’s only for a moment
Yes the dream is there but its execution buffles me
I know I have to wake up because making the dream a reality is not part of the dream

Strength and weakness my two opposites seem to be going at each other with each passing day
Some days I feel like King Arthur with his legendary sword slaying all day long with extraordinary ease but other days am just superman ripped of strength and drowning in a pool of crystal green kryptonite
I am numb with pain
No relief comes my way
I laugh in the crowds but cry in my closet

Just a normal day or is it?
When you face the dark demons that haunted you yesterday all over again
And your strength fades away with each passing encounter
The blur of life causing me to question my worth when after all the wear and tear no fruits are reaped

Standing at the crossroad, I stare ahead as the names of each path seem to magically appear then disappear
Debating whether to go ‘right’ or follow the enticing path
Knowing full well the enticing path leads to an aftermath of guilt and regret
Fear grips my soul
Every second filled with worry that my mistake will break Savior’s your heart
When John 6:35 seems impossible – that the thirst of worldly things can be quenched
Powerless to the addictions weaned into full growth
When will I stare into the eyes ablaze with love?
When will my light grow to shine and cut through the darkness?
Faith is all I have, its my only shield, I gotta hold onto it

The corner of my eye catches a glare afar off
Hope is always here even when I chose to ignore
Peace floods my heart
The path to destiny is fully illuminated
Yes LIFE is calling
With a voice so sweet it makes my ears tingle
The crossroad puzzle has been made void
And the darkness overcome by light

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

I love being challenged because it pushes me to move out of where I currently am into becoming a better version of myself; but challenges at times might make you feel worthless and unaccomplished. Someone else’s success might burst your bubble of ‘being the best’. It may show you that you are limited in some area and need to work harder for a new level or that you need help from another person to overcome your limitation.

At this pinnacle of revelation, is where the line is drawn. It is where you are built or broken. Your attitude to the revelation defines how you will proceed. For example; if you come to the realization that someone is better than you, you can choose to hate them or learn from them. Well, I can tell you one thing, your hatred will not benefit you nor will it harm the other party. It is better to find out what tactics they used to get to where they are and you can follow suit to be at par with them or become even better. I thank God for the people that He has placed in my life that I can look up to. Some are my friends while others are my mentors and they have been a crucial element in my growth.

Life is full of such situations where upon settling at a certain position, it no longer is enough. It no longer gives us the satisfaction or joy that we once derived from it. This is just an indication of the need for growth. Whether you are a CEO of a company or just an accountant, it is an indication that you need to move to a new level. If we never became hungry, would we eat? If we never yearned to be better, would we work towards it? No, I bet not. That’s why we need these little nudges in ourselves whenever it is time for us to move to a new dimension. Somebody performing better than you might be better just because he/she put more effort. Maybe they were up the whole night working while you were sleeping or completing an exciting action series season. The point here is that we have to have to be conscious about the effort we are putting into accomplishing a certain task.

We however have to remember that there is always help whenever we need it. Our father is always there waiting to come to our aid. I have come to a point in my life where my own strength is no longer enough to keep me going, and am in constant need for God to strengthen me for the next step that I have to take. I need strength for my next assignment; I need strength to go through tough times and emerge on the other end a victor and only God can supply me that kind of strength.

In my conclusion, I will share something interesting found in this portion of scripture…

Genesis 3:9-12

9  But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?

10 He said, I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me—she gave me [fruit] from the tree, and I ate"

We all know that God is omniscient-all knowing, and He does not change with time as human beings do. So even that far back in the garden of Eden, the Lord already knew where Adam was and what he had done yet He called out seeking Adam. Why? Well, you have to come to a realization that God takes very seriously our responses. Despite the fact that Adam had sinned, God’s focus was on his response. Adam however started playing the blame game leading to his curse out of disobedience. Yes there will be challenges along the way but how are you responding/reacting to them? How you react to any challenge that you face will determine how it will turn out in the end for you, whether you will overcome it or you will be overcome by it! David faced Goliath with an attitude of victory knowing full well that God would fight for him. Despite the crowd’s fear, David came out with courage not because he was the best ‘boy’ in Israel but because his eyes were open to realize that the fight belonged to God. You better leave the fight to Him who’s victory is assured.
